![]() The spray room widely used in air conditioning projects can be considered a special form of it. But its most widespread use is to cool gas, and the liquid used for cooling is mostly water. In industry, this equipment is used to scrub gas for various purposes, such as absorbing certain components in the gas mixture with liquid, removing dust from the gas, and increasing the gas. This method has been widely used in actual projects. For example, the circulating water of thermal power plants or nuclear power plants, the cooling water in the production of synthetic ammonia, etc., are recycled after cooling by the water cooling tower. In this kind of equipment, natural ventilation or mechanical ventilation is used to cool the water whose temperature has been raised in production and then recycle it to improve the economic benefits of the system. ![]() It is widely used in chemical and metallurgical enterprises, power engineering, air conditioning engineering and many other production sectors.Īccording to different uses, hybrid heat exchangers can be divided into the following different types: Therefore, where fluids are allowed to mix with each other, hybrid heat exchangers can be used, such as gas washing and cooling, circulating water cooling, steam-water mixed heating, steam condensation, and so on. As long as the contact between the fluids is good, it will be greater The heat transfer rate. This heat transfer method avoids the fouling resistance of the heat transfer partition and its two sides. I’ve been carrying 147 HST for many years and my carry guns aren’t suppressed. 147 grain loads have become the norm for self-defense 9mm and it’s effectively all subsonic. In fact, most LE and self-defense loads have gone to heavy-for-caliber bullets for the most reliable penetration and barrier penetration performance. In 9mm, for example, where bullet weight determines supersonic or subsonic, there’s really no performance difference due to that velocity change. 22 LR loads) it’s faster than the speed of sound at 32 degrees air temp but slower than the speed of sound at 72 degrees air temp. Example: if the bullet travels at 1,110 FPS (which is typical of many 9mm and. 22 LR loads, the speed of sound straddles the bullet’s velocity such that I’ve been out on the range shooting suppressed where every shot was supersonic in the morning in 30- to 40-degree temperatures (the speed of sound is ~1,090 FPS at 35 degrees) and every shot was subsonic in the afternoon in 60- to 70-ish-degree temperatures (the speed of sound is ~1,128 FPS at 70 degrees). Use THIS CALCULATOR to figure out the speed of sound where you are based on the temperature outside. Nerd note: air temperature is by far the biggest independent driving factor in your local speed of sound. In many cases the subsonic shot is, too, but either way what this means is that the difference between the two is being compressed. In part because the supersonic gunshot is louder than your speakers and, in all likelihood, louder than the microphone or camera will allow. While the video provides an idea of what it sounds like, the microphone and the camera and your speakers or headphones simply cannot reproduce it realistically. Note: it is significantly more pronounced in real life. And that supersonic crack or lack of it, my friends, is the sound difference you hear in the video. With a lightweight 115 grain bullet, it is enough “oomph” to fire the bullet at supersonic speeds. With a heavy, 147 grain bullet the “oomph” contained in the gunpowder isn’t sufficient to fire the bullet fast enough to exceed the speed of sound. There’s no difference in the actual noise of the gunshot, since it’s the same amount of gunpowder and same amount of pressure, etc., behind the bullet. In the video embedded above (or click HERE to view it directly on Rumble), we chose one of those cartridges - your standard 9mm pistol cartridge - to demonstrate the sound difference between subsonic and supersonic ammunition, because bullet weight is the only variable that’s changing. However, the velocity of some cartridges is so close to the speed of sound already that simply moving up or down in bullet weight is all that’s necessary to switch from supersonic to subsonic, or vice versa, without any change in the powder charge. 223 Remington to use effectively the same powder charge but cut the velocity by so much that the projectile is subsonic. ![]() For example, one cannot load a heavy enough projectile into a. Now, with many cartridges there’s also a difference in how much gunpowder is used. Much larger than most of us would suspect. ![]() Throw a silencer on, however, and now the gunshot sound is suppressed so heavily that the difference between subsonic and supersonic ammo is drastic. Subsonic or supersonic, the gunshot sound itself is so darn loud that it drowns out any sonic boom made by the bullet exceeding the local speed of sound. When shooting unsuppressed, the difference in nearly all cases is difficult or impossible to hear. ![]() If that doesn’t work, just put this URL in your address bar: Ī small guide by me, because I get asked a lot Q: Why are both of these programs mentioned in the same breath all the time?īecause FireAlpaca came to the scene first, and is the older twin. Well, I’ve done it! Monday night, I flew from the West Coast to the East Coast, and I arrived at my new home Tuesday morning! So you're disregarding my entire post because you don't believe that a file that doesn't sync correctly to a cloud save doesn't count as "disaster recovery?" Even though I suggested an alternate solution for the feature that addresses your concern about people mistaking MyPaint for being laggy?Īgain, my situation, despite you not believing it to be "disaster recovery" was a file that I was working on for a client, using a STABLE release build of the software so I wouldn't have to make a report like this.Īnd I see the discussion of this feature being implemented is in #90, with saying what I just did: have various options in the settings in response to the concern you address: autosave slowing down someone's computer.Īnd again, to address my original issue: MyPaint had an error message popup before I closed the software. As I mentioned in the last post, I’ve been preparing to move cross-country. Because I just said that I tried to do a normal save and it didn't.Īnd I did not save the file in a different location because I am used to getting MyPaint error messages when I'm trying to save a file, and the file is in tact after the error message (whether I quit MyPaint or I ignore the error manually.) So no, I am not using autosave as substitute for regular saving obviously. If the inactivity autosave works for people, that's fine but it doesn't work for me, and I don't want other users to get blindsided by In my original post: just said that I did press "CTRL+S" to attempt to save my file (And again, I tried to save the file MANUALLY to the location I have it stored at multiple times!) And does the situation I JUST described in this post was a situation where I DID attempt to save the file normally but it didn't. Again, autosave should give peace of mind for artists, and the inactivity basis of this autosave does the complete opposite. This style of autosaving is not efficient or good for artists, and counterintuitive. I tried checking the autosave cache, but nothing.Īnd before anyone tells me that I shouldn't have been testing mypaint to use this file: again, it was a stable release. I thought it would be fine because I have autosave turned on.Įxcept that I checked my preferences, when I tried to re-open the file, and because the autosave is based on inactivity rather than just as set quantity of time, I lost all my progress because I was working on the file non-stop. (probably because my file was saving to Google Drive and couldn't sync yet, so this part isn't the MyPaint bug.) Turns out that the error was that the file wouldn't save. I was in the middle of working on an important file, and when I tried to save it, MyPaint had an error. ![]() Our aim was to describe the functioning and composition of the unknown vertebrate scavenger assemblage in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia, and determine how carcass size and habitat type affect species composition and carrion use. K E Y W O R D S Brandt's vole, climate change, human disturbance, local disappearance, range contraction, steppe grassland Defeng Bai and Xinru Wan contributed equally to this work and co-first author of this article.ĭespite the essential role that vertebrate scavengers play in ecosystems, most studies have been conducted in Europe and North America, and there is a lack of information on vertebrate scavengers in vast regions of the world. It is necessary to take actions to preserve the isolated populations of Brandt's voles from the effects of accelerated climate change and human disturbance. Our study suggests that the rapid climate change over the past decades contributed to the range contraction of its southern boundary of this keystone species in the steppe grassland of China. The disappearance threshold of maximum air temperature of Brandt's voles in the warmest month (27.50 ± 1.61☌) was similar to the lower critical temperature of its thermal neutral zone. The southern boundary retreated northward at a speed of 99.0 km per decade with the temperature rise of 0.36☌. Human stressors and high vegetation coverage increased the probability of local disappearance of voles in years of abundant precipitation. We found climate warming attributed to local disappearance and range contraction for southern populations of Brandt's voles from 1971 to 2020. We projected the distribution change of Brandt's voles under future climate warming scenarios. The year following the last observation year was used to estimate the disappearance threshold of Brandt's voles. We used logistic generalized additive models to quantify the relationship between local disappearance probability of Brandt's voles and environmental variables. In this study, we examined the association of climate warming and human disturbance stressors with local disappearance probability of Brandt's voles (Lasiopodomys brandtii) in a steppe grassland in northern China. Climate warming and human disturbance are known to be key drivers in causing range contraction of many species, but quantitative assessment on their distinctive and interactive effects on local disappearance is still rare. ![]() An extension to the known wintering range of the Steppe Eagle Aquila nipalensis, in the Poonch and Jhelum Valleys, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan.ġ. we suggest that the addition of the study area to the wintering range map of the species and recommend annual monitoring of the population. waste from slaughterhouses and other anthropogenic sources appeared to be the main food source since the largest eagle concentrations were at dump sites. Site counts averaged ten birds and ranged from 63 at Hajira, a waste dump, to just two, at Kalas. Mixed wintering groups of adults and immatures, averaging 154 individuals annually, were counted in two survey years. It adds another 6,730km2 to the known wintering range. The present study investigated new distributional records from the Poonch and Jhelum valleys of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, beyond the range of the current IUCN distribution map for Pakistan. The endangered Steppe Eagle Aquila nipalensis is a winter migrant to Pakistan but baseline data regarding its current distribution and population status there is sparse. Altitudes, height of nest location and nest size (diameter, depth, height) did not influence the number of eggs layed and young fledged successfully. All nests were located between 1100-2500 masl. Average clutch size was 1.9 (0.6 SD, 1-3, n=43) and the number of young fledged per pair was 0.89 (0.8, 0-3, n = 37). Only one pair occupied a nest platform from among the 100 platforms built by our team in 2002. Breeding pairs prefer to nest in the midst of 20-30 cm high rocks or rock columns on top or on the side of hills in the center of active colonies of voles. Steppe Eagles are mostly ground nesters and their diet is comprised mostly of Brandt's Vole (Lasiopodomys brandti). The year did not affect nest site selection and there was no difference between type of nest site and clutch size or the number of young fledged successfully. Of the total of 49 nests evaluated, 22 (47.8%) were placed on the ground, 15 (32.6%) were on rock columns and large boulders, 4 (8.7%) on cliffs, one on a tree (2.2%), and 4 (8.7%) on artificial substrates (2 on abandoned car cabins, 1 on a car tyre and 1 on an artificial nest platform). We studied 49 breeding pairs for a decade, 1998-2007. The Steppe Eagle is a migratory species in Mongolia that breeds in the forest, high mountains, and different types of steppes. ![]() ![]() You can delete frames, reverse sequences of frames (useful for making looping animations), copy frames, and past frames. The editing tools aren’t particularly advanced, but they definitely get the job done. This is a feature that other premium apps are dedicated to, and it almost makes iStopMotion worth purchasing in itself.Īfter you’ve captured a sequence of frames, you can begin the editing process. Unrelated to stop-motion, the app can capture time lapse videos. ![]() I’ve found that locking the exposure helped prevent the iPad camera from changing the brightness when something light or dark moves into the scene (like your hands). Otherwise, you might notice flashing in your final video. Because of this, you should adjust the exposure and white balance of your camera and try to film inside, preferably in a room with consistant lighting. Since a significant amount of time can pass between captured frames, the lighting conditions can change. This is the same application that lets you use your iPad camera with the Mac version of iStopMotion. This is done by downloading the iStopMotion Camera app on the device to be used as a camera. You can use the camera of other devices, including iPods, iPhones, and other iPads. That brings me to another unexpected feature. This assists in creating fluid animation and fixing your camera position when you inevitably bump it and everything goes haywire! By default, a “ghost” of the last frame is shown over the current camera view to help you adjust the scene. An extremely helpful feature that you won’t find in capture software not designed for stop-motion is onion skinning. It’s very straightforward: tap the capture button and a frame is added to the timeline. Upon creating a new project or opening an old one, you are presented with the capturing and editing interface. There’s even a “Theater” for viewing other users’ creations and sharing your own. When first opening the app, you are greeted by a cute animation of clay figures showing you how to navigate the interface, which consists of a library of current and past projects and provides buttons accessing help and managing projects. iStopMotion streamlines the entire process of capturing frames and combining them into a video. In the past, I’ve had to use frustrating video editing programs like iMovie to make stop-motion animations, but they really aren’t designed to handle sequences of separate frames that last for fractions of a second. You can even perform the entire editing process without leaving the app!īoinx was kind enough to send me a review copy of iStopMotion for the iPad, and I thought it was definitely worth sharing. With iStopMotion, casual users can quickly and easily whip out their iPad and start snapping photos of any object or material and start animating it. Until recently, software supporting stop-motion animation was trying and buggy at best, non-existant at worst.īoinx Software hopes to change that with it’s revolutionary iPad app, iStopMotion. Those that have attempted to create their own animations know that the recording process is very tedious, and the editing process is even more difficult. Making Stop-Motion Animations is Easy with iStopMotion for iPadĪlmost everyone has watched a stop-motion movie at some point in their lives, whether it be one of Wallace and Gromit’s escapades or Gumby and Pokey’s adventures, and some of the more creative of us have tried to film their own stop-motion animations. ![]() England captain Bobby Moore holds the Jules Rimet Trophy, collected from the Queen, after England’s 1966 World Cup win (PA)ġ967: Breathalyser introduced.
